Thought of the Day

Man’s longing is for an ordered society of fellowship and love. This is something the state cannot create or maintain. Man accepts the authority of positive law because order is preferable to anarchy and chaos; but in law man seeks some vestiges of a higher justice..

Just read an interesting theory that we need cycles of chaos and order to progress……… Chi sa??

Why do US common population ignore their intellectuals?
Few people in America knows people like Noam Chomsky. It is interesting that even in undeveloped countries, the common (the mass) population know their intellectuals better, even though, they have not read them. Any good answers? I think it is important for an advance society to be aware of their intellectuals, if not, the fate is decline…. I am concerned about a society that believes in people like O’Reilly (without analyzing their opinions), and other demagogues, that are worse than Heroin…

    Two thoughts!

Lack of tradition in this country. And people who come here discard the best of their original culture……like for instance opera!! “Multi-culturalism” seems to depress the general intellect.

In 16 years of public education I cannot remember anything philosophical…. except a communist history prof with whom I always fought. Yet the rest of the class questioned nothing…….. Not a nation of questioners…??

    On a lighter note.
Did you see the Monty Python soccer game of philosophers??

1.- Lack of tradition, 2.- Not a nation of questioners…. I agree. These two points are a matter of a deep analysis.

I just saw the Monty Python soccer game of philosophers in youtube. I like the referee, and the Eureka of Archimedes. It was also funny to see Marx warming up.

You might like a bit of Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life. Two Monty Pythons totally irreverent, guaranteed to offend all. Much extremely silly. But sometimes their quirky humour puts political, historical, sociological, and religious nonsense in perspective..

I appeared as anonymous above, forgot to write Cioran

More thoughts……maybe very flawed analogys about my previous comment, ““Multi-culturalism” seems to depress the general intellect.”

I’m reminded of The Fountainhead where all the popular architects of various styles working together in full cooperation did far worse work than usual. I was an esoteric horse trainer and rarely could get thru to PEOPLE that you follow one method completely as a horse has a pea sized brain and cannot extrapolate. So many would want to mix it up with something else way out of context. They lack the understanding of building on knowledge, not whim. I used to think just horse people were nuts…….but judging by popular instant culture, it is far more??? (I discarded people, with a few exceptions, and kept horses…they make perfect sense, what little there is of it)
